Black Hills State University is reaching out to South Dakota residents to assist with educational, financial, and career options with a series of economic/financial workshops in June.

The first workshop of the series “Enhance Your Job Skills in an Economic Downturn,” will be held June 16. Nancy Grassel, director of human resources at BHSU, will discuss positive and tangible ways for employees to increase their value to employers, which can help avoid layoffs and job instability.

The second workshop “Maintaining Adequate Insurance Coverage during Turbulent Times” will be held June 18. Learn how to maintain adequate health, life, home, and auto insurance when faced with employment downturns presented by Don Wolkenhauer, Western Dakota Insurors.

In the third session June 23, Marli Erickson, certified financial planner at Bank West, will discuss choices that need to be made when employment changes occur. During this workshop, “Understanding Your Finical Options When Your Employment Changes,” participants will also have the opportunity to schedule individual consultations courtesy of BankWest.

In the final workshop June 25, “Options for People Falling Behind on Mortgage Payments,” discover options for managing real estate during employment uncertainty and who to contact for help in making these decisions. Carol Lawhun, realtor with The Real Estate Group, will discuss these options.

The economic workshops are sponsored by BankWest, Rapid City and Black Hills State University.

All workshops will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Hall, Room 206 on the Black Hills State University Campus. The cost for each workshop is $10.
