Dr. Holly Downing, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, recently served as a moderator for a session at the 54th annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).
Downing co-moderated a section of the student competition for the president's prize. The session featured 12 presentations by students studying apiculture and social insects.
The meeting included more than 1,700 oral presentations and posters with more than 2,000 attendees from across the nation.
Downing, who has been a member of ESA for more than 25 years, says the organization serves as an important touchstone for keeping abreast of changes in the discipline.
Downing, who holds a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, was appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at BHSU in 1998. Previously she served as chairperson of the Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater from 1993 to 1998.
