Dr. Lee Pearce, associate professor of education at Black Hills State University, will present his research on the predictors of early reading skills in American Indian youth at the American Educational Research Association in San Diego, Calif.

Pearce’s research, which he will co-present with Naomi Hupert, senior researcher at Education Development Center, Inc., is titled “Identifying effective practices for supporting American Indian students within state-wide reading initiatives: Two studies.”

Hupert’s presentation will focus on instructional factors that appear to support improved outcomes for American Indian students in the context of state-wide reading initiatives.

Pearce earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s of education degree in counseling. After completion of his doctorate, he worked as a psychologist and administrator in a variety of public school, agency and private practice settings. He joined the BHSU faculty in 2007.
