Black Hills State University is offering an online Special Education Endorsement for currently certified teachers with classroom experience.
There is a growing need for special education teachers. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment opportunities for special education teachers are expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations in the U.S. through 2014.
To assist in meeting this growing need, BHSU in partnership with Technology and Innovation in Education (TIE) and the S.D. Department of Education has received a grant of almost $6 million dollars to assist in the recruitment, training, and placement of individuals in teaching positions in high need K-12 South Dakota classrooms.
Scholarships may be available to help cover tuition, transportation, living needs, child care and other costs for those meeting eligibility criteria. Teachers do not need to leave their regular education classroom to be eligible.
Teachers interested in this online educational program to earn a Special Education Endorsement should visit www.dakotaassets.tie.net or contact Nancy Whitcher, 605-718-5449 or NancyWhitcher@BHSU.edu or Dr. Gregory Cooch, 605-642-6859 or GregoryCooch@BHSU.edu for details.
