“Serving Great Faces in Great Places” is the theme of the online training created by the Office of Tourism along with the College of Business and Technology at Black Hills State University.

The Office of Tourism contracted with the College of Business and Technology at BHSU to develop the training, which will be offered free of charge to all South Dakota businesses.  The new online customer service training program is part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota.

“This training was developed for front-line employees who are the first people to come into contact with travelers to South Dakota,” said Richard Benda, secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development.  “The goal of this training is to help them with awareness and give them ideas to make the best first impression possible.”

Though the training was initially developed for businesses in the visitor industry, all businesses with an interest in hospitality training are welcome to use the online program.

Business owners/managers are required to register their businesses before any of their employees are able to register and access the training.  Managers will be able to monitor each of their employee's progress.  When finished, each employee will receive a certificate of completion. Participating businesses will also receive a certificate of participation.

Businesses may register for the online training through www.SDVisit.com.  For more information, contact Priscilla Romkema, dean of the College of Business and Technology at 642-6341 or PriscillaRomkema@BHSU.edu.
