Spearfish, S.D. - The 16th Annual Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction will be held Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 at the Spearfish Park Pavilion. The Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction is coordinated by the Yellow Jacket Foundation in an effort to raise scholarship funds for Black Hills State student-athletes.
This year's auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the silent portion and the live auction will begin at 7 p.m. A variety of items will be available to purchase. Some sample items include T.R. Chytka bronze sculpture, two tons of wood pellets from Pope & Talbot, a Henry .22 rifle, an autographed Larry Bird jersey and a lab puppy.
“The Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction is a great way for people to support Black Hills State student-athletes,” said John Kietzmann, Director of Development. “When you purchase an item from the auction, you get something you want and all of the proceeds go towards scholarships for our outstanding student-athletes. It’s win-win.”
The Yellow Jacket Foundation has developed the Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction into one of the most popular social activities in the Spearfish area. This year’s goal is to have over 200 people in attendance and raise more than $15,000 in support of scholarships for Black Hills State University’s male and female athletes. The proceeds from the Yellow Jacket Auction are vital in paying for the $435,000 athletic scholarship bill.
In previous years the Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction was held on the same night as the Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Golf Classic. The Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction was moved to the fall to better accomodate potential attendees schedules.
“This year the auction will be on the Friday night before our last regular season home football game against Minot State,” said Kietzmann. “We wanted to try and find a date that would encourage everyone to attend.”
