The DAC Outdoor Championships began Sunday, April 20 with the start of the multi events. For Black Hills State University freshmen Lisa Koch (Elkton, SD), Kristi Bowers (Broadus, MT) and Shane Long (Yoder, WY) along with Shannon Hellman (Box Elder) competed for the Yellow Jackets in the event hosted by Dickinson State. Despite cold and windy conditions the four competed well with Shannon Hellman winning the event with a new school record. She broke the old record of Jenna Bachand by 41 points scoring 4458. In her first heptathlon, Shannon had the best performance in four of the seven events (100 meter hurdles, long jump, high jump and the 800 meters). Her score currently ranks her fifth nationally and her time in the 100 meter hurdles is leading the NAIA. Also in their first multi competitions Koch and Bowers placed 6th and 7th respectively. Lisa had the second best marks in the javelin and the 800 meters.

Sophomore Shane Long competing in his second decathlon had a consistent two days to finish third overall with a score of 5563 points. His mark moved him to fourth on the BH all-time list. Shane finished in the top four in six of the ten events over the two days.
