The men's basketball program went into this past weekend coming off two wins at home the previous weekend. Standing in their way was the top two teams in the DAC Conference.  On Friday The Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start the first five minutes but would finish strong.  The Jackets held Valley City State to 23 points in the first half.  They made a run at the end to give them a 10 point advantage going into the break at 33-23.  In the second half the Yellow Jackets would stretch their lead even further but the Vikings would come roaring back. Valley City State came back and took a one point lead with under three minutes to play. Junior AJ Fodness got fouled and made both of his free throw attempts to put the Jackets back up by one.  Junior Randy Herman got a steal and sophomore Parker Emerson was fouled where he made one of two from the line to put the Jackets up by two.  Valley City waisted little time scoring on a layup on the other end which left 15 seconds to play and the game tied.  Freshman Cain Atkinson got lose and hit a pull-up jump shot with 5 seconds left to eventually win the game 58-56.  Black Hills State was led by Parker Emerson who had 18 points and eight rebounds.  AJ Fodness added 14 points and nine rebounds.

The next night the Jackets took on the 20-6 Jamestown Jimmies.  The Jackets were able to take an early lead at 12-7 holding Jamestown to only 12 points in the first 10 minutes. The Jimmies would battle back and eventually take the lead going into halftime at 26-32.  In the second half Jamestown showed why they are 20-6 and their seven seniors stepped up and made plays to give them a double figure advantage.  The Yellow Jackets tried to fight back closing the gap to eight points with a minute left to play but that is as close as they got as Jamestown won 77-87. The Yellow Jackets were led by Parker Emerson with 23 points. Cain Atkinson had 17 points and senior Forrest Dorr added 12 points.  Freshman Will John Johnson had 12 rebounds on the evening.

The 14-13 Yellow Jackets return home this week to take on rival South Dakota School of Mines.  This Sunday will be the first round of the conference tournament.
