The Yellow Jacket men’s basketball program recently received a commitment from Parker Emerson, a transfer from Portland University. Last year the 6’5” guard played at Portland University where he averaged 8 minutes a game and scored a season high of 23 points against Gonzaga University. Emerson red shirted the previous year (2005-2006) at the University of Wyoming and graduated from Windsor High School in 2005. Emerson is originally from Colorado. Emerson will be eligible to play after Christmas and will be a sophomore.
High School/Personal: Emerson averaged 25.8 points and 10.9 rebounds his senior season at Windsor High -- both school records. He also set Windsor High records for total points in a career (1,509), most rebounds in a career (629), most three-point field goals in a career (184) and most career steals (124). He scored a career best 46 points in one game as a junior, including 10 three-pointers -- both of those also set school records. His senior season, he was a nominee for the McDonald's All-America team.
During his four-year career, he helped lead Windsor High to an 80-20 (.800) record. His sophomore season, Windsor placed second in state with a 24-3 record. As a junior, his team advanced to the Great 8 of the state tournament, posting a 22-3 mark. His senior year, Windsor High went 19-6 and made it to the Sweet 16 of the state playoffs. His scoring averages increased from 11.4 points per game as a sophomore, to 20.8 as a junior to 25.8 his senior season. His rebounding also improved every year starting with a 4.2 average as a sophomore, improving to 9.1 as a junior and finally 10.9 rebounds per game as a senior. He twice led the Northern Colorado Conference in scoring, was a two-time All-Conference selection and earned Honorable Mention All-State honors his sophomore and junior seasons before being named the 4A Player of the Year and First Team All-State as a senior.
Also active in student council throughout his high school years, Emerson was President of his freshman class, and was an at-large representative to the student council his sophomore, junior and senior years. Emerson achieved honor roll both his junior and senior years. He was also active in choir all four years of high school. He was coached in high school by Monty Alcaraz.
Born Oct. 5, 1986, he is the son of Kim and Mike Emerson.
