This was a must win game for the Yellow Jackets as both teams entered the game on Saturday 2-1 in the DAC Conference. Whoever won this game was still going to be in content to fight for the conference title. “I felt both teams were really flat the entire game. We were fortunate to execute when we needed to which helped us secure the victory” said Coach Scott. The Yellow Jackets went into halftime with a 13-0 lead and never looked back as the final score was 22-7.
Offensively the Jackets were able to run the ball but didn’t show consistency throughout the game. “We had over 200 yards rushing but we still made some mistakes with the running game” added Coach Scott. At the start of the second half on the third play freshman Tanner Ehrlich ran for 56 yards and a touchdown to give the Yellow Jackets a 20-0 lead. The passing game was able to keep Dakota State honest by taking some shots over the top.
Defensively the Yellow Jackets did a great job of keeping the Trojans in front of them without starting All-American Safety Tanner Tetrault who was held out of the game with an injury. The Jackets stopped their running game and kept them at bay in the passing game. The Trojans did have one touchdown pass in the second half which gave them their only score on the afternoon.
“We weren’t emotionally ready for the start of the game and throughout. We got lucky that the ball bounced our way to win the game. This week we have to be really focused and ready going into Jamestown who is still undefeated” added Coach Scott.
