The Yellow Jacket Women's cross country team managed to edge out Concordia Nebraska in a close finish in team scoring at the Mt. Marty Invitation in Yankton, SD over the weekend. The Lady Jackets combined for a team score of 59 points, just two points ahead of Concordia's 61. Wendy O'Lexey (Rock Springs, WY) was the top finisher for Black Hills State, completing the 5K course in a time of 18:19. O'Lexey finished 3rd overall, just four seconds back from the leader. Other scoring Yellow Jackets included Kerry Washburn (Cheyenne, WY) 6th, Alicia Verhulst (Ralph, SD) 10th, Shelli Scheffler (Lovell, WY) 12th, and Katie Cook (Cheyenne, WY) 30th. There were 146 runners and twelve teams in the meet.

In the men's race, Black Hills State finished 3rd with 106 points behind Dickinson State and Concordia Nebraska. Holding out the team’s top five runners, the Yellow Jackets were led by transfer Tyrone White, (Eagle Butte, SD) who finished 10th overall in an 8K time of 26:04. The Yellow Jackets have a handful of men competing for a position on the team that will represent Black Hills State at the upcoming championship races. Following White for the Yellow Jackets was Mark Mazza (Cheyenne, WY) 17th, KC Fiedler (George, IA) 25th, Neil Long (Ft. Collins, CO) 28th, and Jon Antar (Honolulu, HI) 29th. The meet had 15 complete teams and 164 runners.

The Yellow Jackets will head to Dickinson, ND to compete at the Dakota Athletic Conference Championship meet this upcoming Friday, October 19th.
