The Yellow Jackets enter this weekend against rival South Dakota School of Mines fresh off their impressive victory against Dickinson State last weekend 23-3. South Dakota School of Mines is a team that has improved each year since their staff arrived. “They are very sound defensively. They play very aggressive and they will really come after you” said Coach Scott. Mines got two early victories to start their season and have lost their last three games which have all been very close. The level that Mines is playing at will be a great test for the Yellow Jackets at Lyle Hare stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Offensively South Dakota School of Mines runs a pistol offense where the quarterback takes a short shotgun snap. They look to really keep you off balance and not be predictable. “They run a lot of play action to balance out their running plays. If you don’t stay sound defensively then they will take advantage of you” according to Coach Scott.
Defensively Mines sets up in a four man front where they will give you different looks. “They have a good defensive backfield that allows the front seven to be aggressive. They also have two big defensive linemen that are really good at stopping the run” added Coach Scott.
Saturday, the Yellow Jackets are looking to take care of the ball and get out to a great start where they are not playing out of a hole. “We have to be really active defensively and create turnovers. Our staff has to build off of last weekend at continue to make good decisions dictating good field position” said Coach Scott.
Game time will be at 1:00PM at Lyle Hare Stadium on the Black Hills State University Campus.
