The Lady Yellow Jacket softball team is eager to have a strong showing now that they have year of play under their belts going into the 2008 season. The Jackets added ten new faces to the team this season. “I am excited about the talent in our freshman class. We brought in players from Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming; all of whom have a great deal of talent and experience. We doubled our pitching staff as well as bringing in numerous other position players to fill holes left from our inaugural year,” Commented Coach Gurney.
The jackets returned eight players from last year’s team. “It was important for us to return a core of athletes who had a year of college softball experience in the DAC.” The complete infield returns as well as a starting pitcher, a senior outfielder, and two red-shirt freshmen. “This core group will provide a great base of leadership and commitment for our young players. As a group, the upper classmen know what to expect from the teams in our conference, and that will come in useful during preparation for the upcoming season.”
The 2008 Lady Yellow Jacket softball team is looking improve their 2007 inaugural season starting in March as they kick off at the Hasting invitation where they will play teams out of Region III. “The Hastings tournament will be a great way to start the season. We get a chance to see how we stack up against many of the stronger teams in our region.” Home games begin March 12 with a double header against Western Nebraska Community College followed by a home invitational weekend against Mt. Marty College, the University of Great Falls, and conference rival Dickinson State University.
