The Yellow Jackets Volleyball team traveled this past weekend to play Jamestown College and Dakota State University. Friday night they were at Jamestown College who is one of the favorites in the Dakota Athletic Conference. “We played well at times. We need to execute down the stretch in points 20-30” said Coach Albers. Jamestown College took the match in three games.

In the first game the score went back and forth with the Yellow Jackets taking the lead 28-26. “We didn’t make the plays we needed to down the stretch” added Coach Albers. Jamestown came back to take game one 31-29.

The next two games were very similar with the score being tied or very close at the 20 point mark. Both games finished the same way as the Jimmies pulled away at the end winning game two 30-24, and winning game three 30-25.

Kristin Engle led the Yellow Jackets in kills with 13. Mandy Brumfield led in assists with 25.

The following night the Yellow Jackets traveled to Madison, South Dakota to play Dakota State University in another conference game. “We came in with the mind set we had to let the loss go and take care of business tonight” said Coach Albers.

The first game the Yellow Jackets struggled as the score went back and forth. Black Hills State never really showed consistency in the first game but was able to take game one 30-28.

The Yellow Jackets won the next two games by scores of 30-24 and 30-24. “We gave up big leads but we were able to put a good run together down the stretch to win both games” added Coach Albers. The Yellow Jackets took the match in three games.

The Yellow Jackets were led again in kills by sophomore Kristin Engle with 14. Senior Mindi Mayer added 8 kills. Sophomore setter Mandy Brumfield had 41 assists.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this weekend as they will travel to Minot State University and Dickinson State University. Both games start at 7:00pm.
