On August 18, the football team took the field for their first Jacket vs. Jacket scrimmage. This was a great opportunity for the players to get their first taste of live action. During the scrimmage we were able to see the 1st string offense vs. the 1st string defense. “We made good progress and the mistakes we made are correctable,” according to Coach Scott.
The offense which ran about 65 plays gave the running backs some opportunities to gain more experience against a very solid defense. A very young offense featuring only a few seniors and juniors is gaining confidence and making tremendous strides as training camp goes on. Coach Scott had this to say about the offense, “Overall there were more positives than negatives. This was a great chance to see the mistakes we needed to improve on.”
The defense showed why they have a lot of veterans returning from a year ago by really picking up the intensity. “Our defense has a certain level they want to play at and they haven’t felt good all week. Saturday they raised the bar at the scrimmage by flying around and showing emotion,” Coach Scott said.
Overall Coach Scott and his staff preach effort and if you witnessed his teams performance on Saturday there was no lack of effort. This Wednesday, August 22nd, the team will be scrimmaging at 6:30PM on Papik Practice Field. They will be really working on preparing around the goal-line. Saturday, August 25th, the team will hold their next Jacket vs. Jacket scrimmage again on Papik Practice Field at 2:00PM as they begin to prepare for Carroll College on September 1st.
Injury Report - The Yellow Jackets remained healthy on Saturday only suffering minor bumps, bruises, and pulls. The team will also welcome back safety Clayton Schleusner as he returns to practice today after recovering from an injury.
