Four members of the Yellow Jacket cross-country team participated in the 12th annual Race for the Cure, held in Cheyenne, Wyoming this past weekend. The event, which included over 2,000 participants, volunteers, and spectators, is a 5k run/walk through the streets of Cheyenne and is held annually to increase awareness and fight against breast cancer. Yellow Jacket participants included Kerry Washburn and Mark Mazza, both graduates of Cheyenne Central, as well as Allen Wood and Cody Bordewyk. Washburn, who was the 2005 and 2006 race winner in the women’s division, once again took honors finishing in a time of 18:07, while Allen Wood took first place honors in the men’s division with a clocking of 15:30. The opportunity not only allows the athletes to get out and run with some teammates and friends for a change, but also is for a great cause. Proceeds from the race help fund local research and educational programs in Wyoming as well as a portion donated to the National Susan G. Komen for the Cure exclusively for national research and grant rewards. For race results, photos, and future information on the Race for the Cure, please visit the website below.
