Spearfish, SD – Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Football announced their second signings of 20 football recruits which brings the incoming recruiting class to 40 prospects for the 2007 fall season.  Included in the second signing of the year are nine athletes from South Dakota and four from Wyoming. Scott commented, “With the exception of a kid or two more this will wrap up our signings for the year.  We expect to have ninety to ninety-five young men for fall camp.  Overall we had a good year recruiting South Dakota where we signed fifteen kids from throughout the state”.  The season kicks off on September 1st when the Yellow Jackets take the road to meet Carroll College at Helena, Montana.  First home game is September 8th where the Jackets will host Wisconsin Eau Claire.

South Dakota Signings

Jordan Lakatos, QB – 6’, 185, Fr. – Sioux Falls, SD (Washington High School)
An outstanding recruit for the Yellow Jackets where Jordan has the quarterback mentality and skills to make an impression early on.  A two-year starter for the Warriors where he earned 2006 All Greater Dakota Athletic Conference honors, Honorable Mention Elite 45, and was selected Team Captain.  Parents – Charles & Laureen Lakatos

Cole Nicholas, DE – 6’2’ 210, Fr. – Colome, SD (Gregory High School)
Impressed coaches with his work ethic and hustle on the field along with being the Vice President of the National Honor Society.  Cole earned All State Honors as a defensive end in 2006.  Competes in basketball and track where he is a three-time state qualifier in the discus.  Parents – David & Kathy Nicholas

Mitch Petersen, WR – 5’8, 165, Fr. – Hurley, SD (Hurley High School)
Mitch earned All Conference and Honorable Mention All State honors his senior year at running back, but will switch to receiver his first year at the college level.  Parents – Ronald & Lisa Petersen

Nick Petersen, OL – 6’5, 250, Fr. – Brandon, SD (Brandon Valley High School)
Comes to Black Hills State with a great frame and good feet.  Nick’s upside is huge as his potential hasn’t even been tapped yet.  Will need time to develop the strength to match his size.  A starter the past two season seasons at Brandon Valley.  Parents – Bruce & Karen Petersen

John Soriano, RB – 5’8, 175, Jr. – Spearfish, SD (Spearfish High School & Dickinson State)
Soriano joined the Yellow Jackets just prior to spring ball after transferring in January to Black Hills State University.  Earned All State Honors in 2003 where he helped lead Spearfish High School to the State Championship.  A very quick and durable running back who will figure into the backfield rotation with a productive summer and fall camp.  Parents – Paul & Pam Soriano

Casey Kaubisch, K – 6’3, 175, Fr. – Sturgis, SD (Sturgis Brown High School)
Impressed the coaches during a spring workout where he had good range and consistency.  Lettered this past year in both football and soccer for the Scoopers.  Will be one of four kickers in camp competing for the kicking duties.  Parents – Scott & Sheila Kaubisch

JR Toles, LB – 5’10, 200, Fr. – Rapid City, SD (Rapid City Central High School)
Toles earned three varsity letters while playing defensive end and linebacker for the Cobblers.  Made a strong impression on the Yellow Jacket coaching staff during a spring workout.  Will begin his college career playing outside linebacker.  Parents – Robert & Helen Toles

Joshua Butterick-Sitch, DB – 5’8, 160, Fr. – Rapid City, SD (Rapid City Central High School)
Josh earned three letters for the Cobblers.  Left his mark on defense where he was second on the team in interceptions playing corner back including returning one for a touchdown.  Will play either defensive back or receiver for the Yellow Jackets in the fall.  Parents – Jack Sitch & DeeDee Wilt

Lorne Ruzicka, Punter, Fr. – Belle Fourche, SD (Belle Fourche High School)
Earned All Conference honors this past year for the Broncs after playing on the offensive and defensive lines as well as punting.  Will concentrate on punting for the Yellow Jackets this fall.  Parents – Leland & Teir Ruzicka

Wyoming Signings

Tyler Fenner, TE – 6’1, 205, Jr. – Douglas, WY (Douglas High School)
Tyler joined the squad the winter during off season training and competed at receiver during spring drills where his effort earned him a spot on the squad.  A successful two sport athlete (football & basketball) at Douglas High School where he earned all state honors in 2005.  Fenner will move to tight end in the fall.  Parents – Bob & Carol Fenner

Dexter Nast, OL – 6’1, 250, Fr. – Rock Springs, WY (Rock Springs High School)
Played on both the offensive and defensive lines his senior year for the Tigers.  Dexter will compete on the offensive line this fall for the Yellow Jackets.  Has good strength and can play either the guard or center positions.  Parents – jerry Stroud & Vicki Nast

Drew Powell, RB – 5’10, 155, Fr. – Buffalo, WY (Buffalo High School)
Earned All Conference and All State this past year at running back for the Bison.  Drew is very quick and will play either in the slot as a receiver or half-back on the offensive side of the ball.  Competed in three sports in high school where he earned all state honors in track and basketball.  Parents – Daniel & Jacki Powell

Daniel Helwig, QB/WR – 6’3, 180, Fr. – Upton, WY (Upton High School)
An outstanding athlete who played a number of skill positions in high school.  Has a great frame and runs well – played quarterback, receiver, defensive back, and long snapped in earning All State honors and being selected to play in the Shrine All Star game.  Parents – Brian & Debra Helwig

Colorado Signings

Miguel Garcia, DL – 6’2, 320, Fr. – Greeley, CO (Greeley West High School)
A very large defensive lineman who moves pretty well enabling him to earn All Conference & Honorable Mention All State honors in the Colorado 4A ranks.  Garcia also wrestled in high school and played baseball.  Mother – Mary Garcia

Micah Nielsen, K – 6’, 160, Fr. – Fort Collins, CO (Rocky Mountain High School)
Micah demonstrated a strong and accurate leg this winter on his campus visit.  Earned Honorable Mention Academic All State his junior and senior years while competing in Colorado’s highest level (5A).  Nielsen will compete for the kicking job this fall.  Parents – David & Kathy Nielsen

Lane Varner, DB – 6’1, 170, Fr. – Delta, CO (Delta High School)
Lane earned a number of football honors during his high school career.  Was selected to the All Conference team while earning Defensive MVP and both defensive back and receiver MVP team honors in his junior and senior years.  High school position coach was former Yellow Jacket stand out Kirk McLaughlin.  Parents – Dane & Holly Varner

Regional Signings

Bryan Beaulieu, OL – 6’1, 265, Fr. – Tehachapi, CA (Tehachapi High School)
Bryan will add immediate depth to the offensive line this fall after an outstanding high school career in which he earned Conference recognition both athletically and academically.  Selected to the California Scholastic Federation team and good size makes Beaulieu a good fit in bolstering the Yellow Jacket offensive line.  Parents – Marc & Claudia Beaulieu

Richard Fairhead, LB – 6’, 195, Fr. – Gordon, NE (Gordon-Rushville High School)
Richard joins the Jackets after a successful high school career where he earned both All-Conference and All-State honors his senior year.  In addition he was a four year letter winner and three year starter at linebacker.  Parents – John & Ingrid Fairhead

Michael Kreitman, LB – 6’2 200, Fr. – Gordon, NE (Gordon-Rushville High School)
Kreitman joins high school teammate Richard Fairhead with the Yellow Jackets this fall.  A two-time WTC All Conference selection, Michael also competed in basketball and track during his high school career.  Parents – Marvin & Lynn Kreitman

Duane Aamot, QB/DB – 6’1, 200, Fr. – Fairbanks, AK 9 West Valley High School)
Signed with Black Hills State University as an athlete after playing most all skill positions in high school including quarterback, receiver, and defensive back.  Very athletic having earned his teams most improved player and starting in basketball.  Parents – Kenneth Aamot & Leia Tipa-Sutto
