Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University football team had ten players named to Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) All-Conference teams and four earn honorable mention honors.
The Yellow Jackets had three first team offensive players including freshman running back Drew Nielsen, senior center Tom Owsiany and senior tackle Kale Demink. Nielsen finished the season with 571 yards on 151 carries averaging 3.8 yards per carry and four touchdowns. Owsainy has been named second team all-conference twice before. This is Demink’s first award.
Black Hills State defense was represented by senior Forest Sainsbury, senior Richard Fairhead, and sophomore Sterling Boylan who earned first team all-conference honors. Sainsbury led the Yellow Jacket defense tallying 95 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks. Sainsbury ranked second in NAIA for both tackles for loss and tackles for loss per game averaging just under two tackles for loss per game. Sainsbury was named first team all-conference and second team all-conference in the two previous years. Boylan finished the season with 26 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 5 sacks and one forced fumble. Last season, Boylan was named second team all-conference. Fairhead finished his senior season with 64 tackles 11.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. Fairhead had also been named to the all-conference second team the past two seasons.
The Yellow Jackets had four players earn Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Second-Team honors led by senior defensive end Wacey Coleman who battled injury all season. Coleman had been named to the all-conference first team in each of the past three seasons. In 2009, Coleman was the DAC player of the year. Others receiving honors were sophomore defensive back Scott Boner, sophomore wide receiver Daniel Hancock and freshman running back Bryar DeSanti.
Black Hills State also had four honorable mention All-Conference athletes as well. They include senior defensive back Clayton Schleusner, senior defensive lineman Clayton Smith, senior defensive lineman Michael Pollick and sophomore defensive lineman Brady Clark.
“The guys receiving this honor have put in the time and effort and deserve to be recognized for their achievements,” said head coach Jay Long. “I am proud of what they have accomplished individually and what we have done together.”
