Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State women’s track and field team won the Dakota Athletic Conference outdoor title on Friday in Rapid City.  The men’s team placed second behind Dickinson State.

The women’s team had six individuals and two relay teams win a total of 11 conference titles.  In the field events, the Yellow Jackets won three events.  Cody Milbourn won the hammer throw with a toss of 51.75 meters.  Lisa Koch won the pole vault with a height of 3.76 meters.  Breanna Janovy tossed the discus 45.69 meters, more than six meters ahead of second place.  Black Hills State was just as successful on the track.  Shannon Hellman won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.58 and then came back to win the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.25.  Hellman again came back to the track to win the 200-meter dash in 25.99.  She also won the heptathlon last week.  Nikki Shinkle won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:07.01.  Katie Cook won the 10,000-meter run in 41:02.55.  The 4x800-meter relay placed first with a time of 15:25.15 and the 4x400-meter relay team won the event in a time of 4:04.63.

On the men’s side, Black Hills State won four events.  Only Jason Boeding and Cody Bordewyk won individual conference titles for the Yellow Jackets.  Boeding won the hammer throw and the shot put with tosses of 54.10 meters and 15.29 meters, respectively.  Bordewyk won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run.  Bordewyk posted a time of 9:42.50 in the steeplechase and a time of 15:43.93 in the 5,000-meter run.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind. on May 27-29.
