Dickinson, N.D. – The Black Hills State men’s and women’s track and field teams travelled to Dickinson, N.D. on Friday to compete in the Blue Hawk Games.  The men’s team finished in second place with a score of 182 points and the women’s team placed third with 99 points.

Shannon Hellman met the NAIA provisional qualifying standard in the 100-meter hurdles with a first place finish in a time of 13.56.  Hellman also ran a time of 25.38 in the 200-metter dash giving her a second place finish.  Cody Milbourn won both the shot put and hammer throw with tosses of 12.30 meters and 46.07 meters, respectively.  Breanna Janovy won the discus throw with a mark of 33.49 meters.  Nikki Shinkle and Abi Bever also won individual events.  Shinkle placed first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.44) and Bever won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:12.19).  The women’s 4x400-meter relay team placed first with a time of 4:15.91.

On the men’s side, the Yellow Jackets won three individual events.  Laine Parish was first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:17.59 and Birch Haraden placed first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:49.99.  Cody Bordewyk won the 3,000-meter steeplechase after posting a time of 9:46.56.

The men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to action on April 18 at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational.
