Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State softball team defeated Dakota State 12-4 in five innings, and 11-5 in seven innings to complete the doubleheader sweep on Monday. After picking up two wins on Sunday, the Yellow Jackets took the field and picked up two more important conference wins pushing their DAC conference record to 4-0.

In the first game, the Yellow Jackets sprung out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. Aleishia Giesey propelled the Yellow Jacket offense with three hits on three plate appearances. Maria Herber also showed her stuff at the plate with two hits on three attempts and three RBIs.
In the nightcap, Black Hills State found themselves down early 4-0 entering the third inning. Junior outfielder, Ashley Berg, was one of the many Yellow Jackets to step up to the challenge going four for five at the plate with two earned runs. Aleishia Giesey and Krista Gleiforst also rallied the team with three RBIs a piece.
“It was awesome” said Berg, “we were down and we just kept pushing. It was a great feeling and it was a great team win.”
“I think our pitchers threw really well. They threw great off speed pitches to confuse the batters,” said Head Coach Amy Gurney. “Offensively we stepped up and made the big hits when we needed them and defensively we didn’t give up any big innings.”
Next up for the Yellow Jackets is a double-header against NCAA Division II Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 1pm and 3pm MT.
