Spearfish, S.D. – Today kicked off the first day of the DAC Indoor Track Championship meet at the Donald E. Young Center. Black Hills State University track and field athletes performed impressively on their home turf in today’s events.

Both the men’s and women’s field events commenced today following the men’s and women’s heptathlons.

In the women’s heptathlon, Lisa Koch and Kayla Haines finished second and third respectively earning 14 team points to the BHSU tally. In the women’s field events, Koch also placed third in the women’s pole vault. In the women’s weight throw, the Yellow Jackets finished in the top three places with impressive performances from Cody Milbourn, Alaina Yaracz, and Lory Johnson. Milbourn and Yaracz both hit automatically qualifying marks for the national meet, while Johnson met the provisional standard. In the only individual running event of the evening, Leigh Anne Whiteside finished second followed by Katie Cook in third for the women’s 5000 meter run. Whiteside’s impressive time provisionally qualified her for the national meet.

The Yellow Jacket men also held their own as Cole Nicholas and Jason Boeding finished first and third in the men’s weight throw respectively. Hayden Bales also had a provisional qualifying vault as he finished second in the men’s pole vault. In the lone men’s running event of the day, Birch Haraden finished second in the men’s 5000 meter run.

Leading into Saturday’s events both the Yellow Jacket women and men are at the top of the team point standings.
