Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University will be hosting a fundraiser for Coaches vs. Cancer on Saturday, February 6 as the Yellow Jackets take on Valley City State in men’s and women’s basketball at the Young Center. This year, proceeds raised from the event will benefit former Sturgis High School boy’s basketball coach and Black Hills State alum Ethan Dschaak.
“Basketball is one of Ethan’s passions,” said BHSU head men’s basketball coach Paul Sather. “This is just our way of supporting the Dschaak family.”
Dschaak was diagnosed with cancer in November and is currently undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Black Hills State coaches Paul Sather and Mark Nore will be coaching in honor of their friend.
Black Hills State is also offering a discounted ticket rate on Saturday night. Any person wearing Sturgis High School clothing or presenting identification with a Sturgis, S.D. address will receive a general admission ticket for $1.
On Saturday night, there will be a raffle for an iPod Touch and a silent auction with a variety of items.
The women’s basketball game will begin at 4 p.m. with the men’s basketball game to follow at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
