Saturday, January 16, 2010 – The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets Track and Field competed at the 2010 Holiday Inn Invitational this weekend. The Yellow Jackets had 14 of their athletes with top 10 finishes in their respective events.
On the women’s side of the field events, Lisa Koch finished ninth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-3.75 feet. In the women’s weight throw, Alaina Yaracz, Lory Johnson, and Cody Milbourn finished fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively.
For the women’s running events, Wendy O’Lexy placed third in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:20.42. Kaila Ivers ended up finishing tenth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:15.75. The women also placed third in the distance medley as Ivers, Rosechandler, Shinkle, and O’Lexy combined for a time of 12:42.79.
On the men’s side of the field events, Hayden Bales placed third in the pole vault for the Yellow Jacket men with a vault of 14-03.35 feet. Jason Boeding placed tenth in the weight throw with a heave of 53-04.50 feet.
In the men’s running events, Jed Morgan ended up seventh in the mile run with a final time of 4:27.22. Laine Parish, Birch Haraden, and Neil Long finished fourth, seventh, and ninth in the 5000 meter run respectively. The men also placed seventh in the distance medley as Morgan, Leavitt, Dean, and Parish combined for a time of 10:38.66.
