The Yellow Jackets traveled this past weekend to Colorado Springs for the Marriot Classic on the campus of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. On Friday, the Yellow Jackets got off to a great start increasing their lead to double figures over Bethany College taking a 43-31 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Yellow Jackets began to click increasing their lead to 30 points taking the game 88-58. BHSU was led by junior forward Luke Enos with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Craig Von Allman had his highest scoring night of 15 points, junior guard Clay Pottorff had 14 points, junior forward Will John Johnson and junior guard Cain Atkinson each added 10 points. Johnson led the way on the boards with 13. The Yellow Jackets shot 53% for the game Friday night.
Saturday BHSU picked up right where they left off on Friday. The Yellow Jackets started the game on a 9-0 run. The Mountain Lions of UCCS would cut the lead to 11-9 but BHSU answered on another run increasing their lead to double figures where it would stay the rest of the night. The Yellow Jackets led at halftime 43-28. In the second half, BHSU increased their lead to as many as 27 points shooting 57% from the field for the game. The Yellow Jackets took the game 87-76 to improve to 5-3 on the season. BHSU was led by Luke Enos with 21 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Cain Atkinson had 19 points and Clay Pottorff added 10 points. Will John Johnson had 15 rebounds on the night.
Luke Enos was named tournament MVP. He averaged 21 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, and dished out five assists in two games. Will John Johnson was also named to the All-Tournament team averaging eight points and 14 rebounds in two games this weekend. The Yellow Jackets will now travel to Rapid City for the South Dakota School of Mines Classic this Friday and Saturday. Please check the schedule for exact game times.
