This Saturday the 4-4 Yellow Jackets are in Lyle Hare Stadium for their final home game of the season.  South Dakota School of Mines comes into Spearfish with a record of 4-3 fresh off a victory over Valley City State last weekend.  Both teams enter this contest 3-3 in DAC play.  “The winner of this game will play in the Dakotah Bank DAC Bowl game against the winner of Dickinson State and Minot State,” said Head Coach Jay Long.  The number one seed will take on the four seed next week in the Fargo Dome.

Keys to the Game Offensively:

The Yellow Jackets will look to improve offensively by taking advantage of red zone opportunities.  “We need to set the tone early with our running game.  South Dakota Mines will look to force us to throw so we need to establish the line of scrimmage,” added Coach Long.  Freshman running back Cole Benne from Rapid City, South Dakota has carried the ball 159 times for 786 yards and six touchdowns.   The Yellow Jackets will look to get Benne involved early to establish their running game.

Keys to the Game Defensively:

Defensively the Yellow Jackets will look to slow down the Hardrocker passing attack led by sophomore quarterback Nick Russell.   Russell has completed 133 passes on 247 attempts for 1466 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Russell’s favorite target is Tony Ostheimer who has 48 catches for 715 yards and five touchdowns.  “In order for us to have success defensively Saturday we will need to be sound in both the run and the pass.  Offensively Mines has had success running and passing and we will need to contain both the running back Jamie Dale and Nick Russell,” stated Coach Long.

Saturday will kick off with the legendary tailgate in the Young Center parking lot beginning at 11AM followed by kickoff at 1PM.  Saturday’s game will mark the final home game for the Yellow Jacket seniors.  BHSU will then travel next weekend to Fargo, North Dakota for the DAC Bowl.
