The Yellow Jackets took the field this past Saturday afternoon in front of a sold out crowd for Swarm Days. The day kicked off with the legendary Swarm Day parade which started at 10 AM. Following the parade was the tailgate party in the Young Center parking lot which was headlined by Kory and the Fireflies. The Yellow Jackets took the field at 1 PM and never looked back burning the Comets 50-12.
The Yellow Jackets offensively were led by freshman wide receiver Daniel Hancock from Douglas, Wyoming who had nine catches for 123 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground the Yellow Jackets utilized freshman running back Cole Benne from Rapid City, South Dakota. Benne carried the ball 14 times for 98 yards and one touchdown. “Offensively we had a great afternoon as we were able to see young players step up and compete,” said Head Coach Jay Long.
Defensively the Yellow Jackets were led by junior line backer Forest Sainsbury from Harding County, South Dakota who had four unassisted tackles and five assisted tackles. Freshman defensive lineman Sterling Boylan from Newell, South Dakota also had a great day accounting for six total tackles and two sacks. The Yellow Jackets limited the Comets to only 152 total yards. “The past two weeks our defense has really came up big for us. Each week they are continuing to get better and better as our young guys progress,” added Coach Long.
This week the Yellow Jackets will travel to Madison, South Dakota to take on Dakota State University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM CST. You can view the game live through pay per view on the Dakota State University Athletic Website or listen to the game on KDSJ 980 radio.
