This weekend, the Black Hills State Yellow Jacket volleyball team played their first two DAC games of the season. Friday night the Yellow Jackets picked up an impressive win against Dickinson State in front of a large home crowd. The Lady Jackets then capped off the Swarm Day festivities with another victory over Minot, pushing them to a 2-0 conference record.

As the bleachers began to fill with a crowd of green and gold, the Yellow Jacket volleyball team took the floor against Dickinson State. Black Hills State looked poised for victory from the opening whistle. Leading the Yellow Jacket team offensively was Kristin Engle, Maggie O’Neill, and Kayla Haines who tallied 15, 14, and 12 kills respectively. The Lady Jackets snatched the first two sets in an inspiring fashion 25-20 and 25-16. Game three was a much closer match throughout, but the Blue Hawks pulled away with set three, defeating Black Hills State 27-25. However, the Lady Yellow Jackets rose to the challenge as they clinched the set and the match with a 25-16 game four triumph.

The determination and excitement carried over from Friday night’s game into the Saturday evening contest against opponent Minot State. The Lady Yellow Jackets made quick work of the Beaver volleyball team as they came out on fire, and never stopped to cool off. Lead by junior Maggie O’Neill’s seven service aces and senior Mandy Brumfield’s 34 assists, the Yellow Jackets piled on point after point throughout the three matches as they defeated Minot 25-18, 25-7, and 25-19.

The Yellow Jackets will look to pick up two more wins this weekend as they play two immensely important games against rivals Jamestown College and Valley City State on the road.
