The Black Hills State University Lady Yellow Jackets squared of against NCAA Division II opponent Chadron State College at 7 PM tonight. This match was the first home contest for Coach Jhett Albers’ team. The Lady Yellow Jackets put on a show for the large crowd that filled the Donald E. Young Center gymnasium as they rolled past the Eagles in three sets.

The Yellow Jackets came out fired up and ready as the stands continued to fill through the night’s first set. Black Hills State pushed the tempo early, gaining a lead that they would refuse to give back taking the first set convincingly 25-16.

The Lady Yellow Jackets started off the second game slightly tentative in serve receive which kept the score close in the early stages. However, the Yellow Jackets were able to pull away late in the set as senior Mandy Brumfield from Dickinson, N.D. found junior Maggie O’Neill of Martin, S.D. for several of her 14 kills to take the set 25-21.

Black Hills State continued to develop continuity in the third set behind the exceptional performance and leadership of senior Kristin Engle from Newcastle, Wyo.  Engle totaled 14 kills and nine blocks against the Eagle side as the Yellow Jackets took the set and the match 25-21.

Next up for the Lady Yellow Jackets is the DWU/Mount Marty tournament this Friday and Saturday. Black Hills state will face some talented competition as they work to pick up four more big wins on the road.
