The Yellow Jackets will depart this Friday at 7 AM for Marshall, Minnesota to take on NCAA II Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday.  This is the second meeting between the two teams as last season the Yellow Jackets defeated the Mustangs in an exciting finish.  This game will also mark the season opener for first year Head Coach Jay Long and his Yellow Jackets.

Keys to the Game Offensively:

The Yellow Jackets will be led offensively by two-year starter junior Drew Hodgs from Douglas, Wyo.  Hodgs was a 2nd Team All-DAC selection a year ago.  “Drew has been a tremendous leader all camp and his play making abilities will be a huge key to our offense,” said Head Coach Jay Long.  Coming into camp the running back position was up for grabs for the Yellow Jackets.  Freshman Cole Benne from Rapid City, S.D. won the job this past week and will make his debut this Saturday.  “Offensively we need to set the tone early by establishing a running game which will open up our passing game,” added Coach Long.

Keys to the Game Defensively:

Defensively the Yellow Jackets return All-American junior defensive lineman Wacey Coleman from Rozet, Wyo.  Coleman has been the anchor of the defense for the past two seasons.  Backing up Coleman will be an experienced core group of linebackers and secondary.  “Our keys defensively will be to stop their senior running back who is trying to set a school record with 10 games of 100 yards rushing in his career.  We also need to keep the passing game out of rhythm,” stated Coach Long.  The Mustangs will enter the game this Saturday utilizing two quarterbacks on offense.

The Yellow Jackets finished last season with a 6-4 record in the Dakota Athletic Conference.  The Mustangs finished with a 6-5 record, which was their best record in over a decade in the Northern Sun Conference.  Kickoff is set for 6 PM CST on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.  You can view the game free through http://www.northernsun.tv/.
