Yesterday the Yellow Jackets played two talented Montana teams in the first day of the Carroll College/UGF Classic. Black Hills State was able to start the day off right by recording their first win of the season against Montana Tech. The first set proved to be an early test for the squad as they fought off numerous game points to come back and get the first set 36-34. The Yellow Jackets came out onto the floor poised and fired up for the next two sets and never looked back, taking the next two sets convincingly 25-14, 25-15, and the match 3-0.

Black Hills State matched up again with Carroll College for the tournament nightcap in Helena. The Jackets came out confident and executed their offense early against the Saints, winning the first set 25-19. However, Carroll battled back, winning the next two sets by utilizing their quick net offense as well as a big block defensively.  “Things definitely went Carroll Colleges way in sets 2 & 3”, commented Head Coach Jhett Albers.

The fourth set was a tight battle all the way through.  A few questionable calls late in the set chipped away at the mounting Jacket momentum as the Yellow Jackets fell narrowly 25-27 for the match. “Carroll College is going to be a tough team to beat at home.  We definitely played better tonight and competed hard, but still have to execute more consistently and stay more focused when things don’t go our way,” replied Coach Albers.

The Carroll College/UGF Classic will continue today as Lady Yellow Jackets look to bounce back against Rocky Mountain and the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, Montana.  “Both teams will be very competitive, and at home, UGF will be tough to beat.  Rocky Mountain has some talented players returning, so they too, will be a solid team that we will have to play well against and execute efficiently in order to have a chance to beat them,” commented Coach Albers.
