Vermillion, SD--The Black Hills State University Track and Field teams came through with some big performances at the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota. Leading the way was Aubrey Baxter (SR, Redfield, SD) who recorded wins in both the shot put and the weight throw. Her 52-02 mark in the shot put broke the Dakota Dome record while her mark of 61-08 in the weight throw was three inches short of the dome record. Senior, Cody Bordewyk, Livermore, CO, won the mile with a time of 4:14.39. The men’s distance medley relay of Paul Herrold, (JR, Cheyenne, WY)), Cameron Dean (JR, Huntley Project, MT), Jesse Vrooman (SR, Miller, SD) and Bordewyk won in a time of 10:27.30. Wendy O’Lexey (JR, Rock Springs, WY) placed second in the 3000 meter run with a seasonal best time of 10:22.13 and Shelli Scheffler (SR, Lovell, WY) placed second in the mile with a time of 5:10.13 and third in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:06.92.  Her mile time moved her to fifth and her 1000 to sixth on the all-time lists a BH. Jason Boeding (JR, Caputa, SD) went from eighth to third on his last throw with a seasonal best of 52-01. Three freshmen ran personal bests in the 3000 meters led by Jed Morgan (Loveland, CO) who placed second in 9:00.45, Laine Parish (Cheyenne, WY) third in 9:00.64 and Jason Bierle (Aberdeen, SD) eleventh in 9:16.34. Junior Paul Herrold (Cheyenne, WY) placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.89.

The women’s 800 meter relay team of Nicki Shinkle (JR, Rawlings), Rose Hunter (SR, Moorcroft, WY), Kaila Ivers (SO, Wray, CO) and Kyla Wasser (JR, Stephensville, MT) placed third with a conference leading time 1:50.34. Hunter and Shinkle placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 600 and 400 meters. Alicia Verhulst (SR, Ralph, SD) placed fourth in the 3000 meters in 10:33.75 and fifth in the mile with a time of 5:18.41. The women’s distance medley relay team of Robyn Rosechandler (SO, Cody, WY), Kayla Ferguson (JR, Eaton, CO), Scheffler and Leigh Anne Whiteside (FR, Loveland, CO) ran to a fourth place finish with a time of13:14.52. The women’s 1600 meter relay team of Shinkle, Hunter, Ferguson and Kaila Ivers (SO, Wray, CO) placed fourth with a time of 4:08.37. The time was just off their conference leading time of 4:0748. The Yellow Jackets will be at Northern State University on Saturday, February 14 before hosting the DAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 20-21.
