BHSU picked up a couple of key victories over the weekend to give them a two game advantage in first place of the Dakota Athletic Conference.  Entering the weekend the Yellow Jackets knew that the only way to separate themselves from Minot State University and Dickinson State University was to win both games.

Friday, the Yellow Jackets hosted Minot State University who had just beat Dickinson State the week before.  In the first half, BHSU started a little sluggish trailing early but were able to get back on track giving them a 40-34 halftime lead.  In the second half neither team was able to stop each other as the game went back and forth.  With the game tied at 83 the Yellow Jackets picked up a key defensive stop to give them the ball with 43 seconds remaining.  After a timeout sophomore Cain Atkinson curled around on an out-of-bounds play to connect on the lay-up and get fouled.  After missing the free throw the Beavers came right down the floor shooting a last second three-pointer that was just off the mark to give the Yellow Jackets the game 85-83.  BHSU was led by sophomore Luke Enos with 29 points and 12 rebounds.  Cain Atkinson had 20 points and sophomore Will John Johnson added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Saturday, the Yellow Jackets were seeking revenge over Dickinson State University who gave BHSU their only conference loss in overtime last month.  BHSU struggled in the first half only shooting 26% from the field.  Dickinson State went into halftime leading 30-28.  In the second half the Yellow Jackets shot 71% from the field to outscore the Blue Hawks 53-39 in the second half.  BHSU increased their lead to double figures and never looked back taking the game 81-69.  The Yellow Jackets were led by Luke Enos with 22 points.  Cain Atkinson had 20 points, sophomore Clay Pottorff and Will John Johnson each added 10 points on the evening.

The 21-4 Yellow Jackets will now host rival South Dakota School of Mines on Wednesday night in the Donald E. Young Center.  Game time will be at 7:30pm.  If you are unable to attend please visit the BHSU Athletics Website to purchase the game through pay per view.
