Freemont, NE-Senior Trent Waage, Aberdeen, SD and junior Wendy O’Lexey, Rock Springs, WY won their respective divisions of the Warrior Half Marathon hosted by Midland Lutheran College this past Saturday. Waage’s time of 1:07:42 is a new school record breaking the old record held by former three time cross country All-American Dennis Newell who ran 1:09:42 in 2001 on the same course. O’Lexey averaged 6:15 per mile over the 13.1 mile distance to finish with a time of 1:23:01 which was just sixteen seconds off the school record held by Nikki McDaniel (Underwood) who ran 1:22:45 in 2002.

In all, seven Yellow Jackets raced the Half Marathon and bettered the qualifying standard for the 2009   NAIA marathon. In the men’s race, junior KC Fiedler, George, IA and sophomore Cole Lemke, Aberdeen, SD finished together in sixth place with a time of 1:12:21. Freshman, Jason Bierle, Aberdeen, SD placed thirteenth in 1:13 42. There were 36 finishers in the men’s race.

Junior, Katie Cook, Cheyenne, WY (1:30:22) and senior, Jamie Adams, Sundance, WY (1:32:18) finished seventh and fourteenth respectively in the field of 29 women runners.
