The Yellow Jackets had a great weekend opening up Dakota Athletic Conference play with a couple of victories over Mayville State University and Dakota State University. Entering the weekend the Yellow Jackets were ranked #11 in the NAIA.
Friday, the Yellow Jackets got off to a quick start taking a 12 point lead into halftime 42-30. To start the second half BHSU increased their lead even more scoring the first eight points out of halftime to increase their margin to 20 points. They would hold on to their lead taking the game 90-62 over Mayville State University. The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Cain Atkinson with 17 points. Sophomore Luke Enos had 15 points, sophomore Clay Pottorff had 12 points, and sophomore Will John Johnson added 10 points.
Saturday, the Yellow Jackets again got off to a quick start increasing their lead to double figures, but Dakota State came right back to close the gap to six points going into halftime 52-46. Dakota State shot 50% from behind the three-point arc in the first half. In the second half the Yellow Jackets once again had a strong start increasing their lead to double figures. Dakota State tried to make a final push at the end but the Yellow Jackets held on taking the game 96-85. BHSU was led by Cain Atkinson with 33 points. Luke Enos had 20 points and senior Randy Herman added 13 points. Will John Johnson had 12 rebounds on the evening.
With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-1 on the season. They will host Presentation College this Saturday in the Donald E. Young Center at 7:30PM. They will also be home on Monday night against Grace College for their final game before Christmas. Game time will also be at 7:30PM.
