The Yellow Jackets entered the weekend 3-1 as they traveled to South Dakota School of Mines to play Doane College on Friday night.  Doane College came into the game ranked #25 in the country in NAIA Division II.  Saturday they took on Rocky Mountain College out of the Frontier Conference at home in the Donald E. Young Center.

The Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start against the Doane Tigers trailing 20-9 to start the game.  “Our team held their composure and did a great job fighting back into the game to eventually tie it at halftime.  In the second half we controlled the tempo and did a great job beating a good team,” said Head Coach Mark Nore.  The Yellow Jackets went on to beat the Tigers 67-64 improving to 4-1 on the season.  BHSU was led by sophomore Katelynn Lamb with 19 points. Junior Jenna Bolstad had 12 points and junior Brittany Fuhrman added 10 points.

Saturday, the Yellow Jackets set the tone early as they took the lead going into halftime behind solid guard play from Brittany Fuhrman and Katelynn Lamb and post play from sophomore Courtney Johnson. In the second half the Yellow Jackets increased their lead to double figures.  “We got a big lead and got on our heels and lost our focus.  Rocky Mountain did a great job fighting back into the game.  We needed to finish better and it was a great learning opportunity for our young players,” added Coach Nore.  The Yellow Jackets held on to win the game 69-60 over Rocky Mountain College.  Brittany Fuhrman led the way with 21 points.  Katelynn Lamb had 12 points and Courtney Johnson added 10 points.

The 5-1 Yellow Jackets will now travel to Billings, Montana this Wednesday to play in the Rocky Mountain Classic.  They will take on Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College on Thursday and Friday.  Please check the schedule for exact game times and opponents.
