This past weekend the Yellow Jackets took on Rocky Mountain College and Montana Tech. Both teams are in the Frontier Conference. Coming into the weekend the Yellow Jackets were 2-0 coming off their pair of wins on the road the previous weekend against Dakota Wesleyan University and Mount Marty College.
Friday, the Yellow Jackets got off to a strong start taking an early lead 25-10. “We got a lead and relaxed. It was a great learning experience for our team,” said Head Coach Paul Sather. The Yellow Jackets had a three point lead at halftime 30-27. In the second half the Yellow Jackets struggled getting back on track as they were outscored by 15 and Rocky Mountain took the game 88-76. BHSU was led by junior Parker Emerson and sophomore Cain Atkinson who each had 15 points. Sophomore Luke Enos had 11 points and sophomore Will John Johnson added nine points and 15 rebounds on the evening.
Saturday, was Parent Day for the Yellow Jackets where they honored all parents before the game. In the first half the Yellow Jackets went back and forth with the Orediggers of Montana Tech eventually carrying a two point lead into halftime 46-44. In the second half the Yellow Jackets were able to increase their lead to as many as 14 points. The Yellow Jackets went on to maintain their lead and won the game 92-80 improving to 3-1 on the season. BHSU was led by Cain Atkinson with 29 points. Will John Johnson had 21 points and 14 rebounds, Luke Enos had 14 points, and Parker Emerson added 10 points. “It was great to see our team bounce back after Friday night,” added Coach Sather.
The 3-1 Yellow Jackets will now travel this Monday to Billings, Montana for another chance at Rocky Mountain College Tuesday night at 7 PM. They will then have some time off as they prepare for the South Dakota Mines Classic November 28th & 29th.
