BHSU traveled this past Friday to Jamestown College with one thing on their mind revenge. The Yellow Jackets lost the last time the two teams met in Jamestown. “We knew going in that Jamestown was a very difficult place to play. We were hoping to play consistent throughout the match and come out on top,” said Head Coach Jhett Albers. The Yellow Jackets at the beginning of the season set a goal to win the DAC Championship and move on to the NAIA Tournament. They accomplished this goal this past Saturday night as they are now DAC Champions.
Saturday the Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start winning the first two games taking an early lead 2-0. The Jimmies came roaring back to take the next two games to tie the match at 2-2 setting the tone for a classic DAC Championship game. In game five the Yellow Jackets had the lead at 13-12. Jamestown came back to take the lead 16-15. That was win the Yellow Jackets rattled off three straight points to win the game 18-16. BHSU was led by junior Kristin Engle with 27 kills on the night. Sophomore Maggie O’Neill added 18 kills. Junior setter Mandy Brumfield had an amazing 62 assists on the evening.
The 24-6 Yellow Jackets will now host the opening round game of the NAIA National Tournament. They will take on William Penn University this Saturday night in the Donald E. Young Center. Game time is still TBA. Please check back on the volleyball website later this week for the game time.
