This past weekend the Lady Yellow Jackets hosted Dakota State University and Mayville State University.  Coming into the weekend the Lady Yellow Jackets were 18-6 and tied for first place in the Dakota Athletic Conference.

On Friday, the Lady Yellow Jackets took on Dakota State where they jumped out early taking game one 25-18.  “We had great nights from junior Kristin Engle and sophomore Maggie O’Neill offensively and defensively,” said Head Coach Jhett Albers.  In games two and three the Lady Yellow Jackets kept their momentum as they rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Trojans.  BHSU was led by Maggie O’Neill with 14 kills and Kristin Engle added 12.  Junior setter Mandy Brumfield had 30 assists on the evening.  

Saturday, the Lady Yellow Jackets continued where they left off on Friday night against Mayville State University.  The Lady Jackets jumped out early to a two game lead behind strong net play from Kristin Engle and junior Kayla Haines.  “We distributed the ball well to our middle hitters.  They were able to put the ball away with few mistakes,” added Coach Albers. In the third game, the Yellow Jackets came out a little sluggish and made some key errors.  The Comets took the lead and never looked back taking game three 25-21.  The Lady Jackets bounced right back in game four taking an early lead and closing out the match 3-1.  BHSU was led by Kristin Engle with 18 kills and Kayla Haines added 12.  Setter Mandy Brumfield had an impressive 50 assists on the afternoon.

This week the 20-6 Lady Yellow Jackets will host South Dakota Mines on Wednesday night for the regular season finale.  With a win the Lady Yellow Jackets could clinch a conference championship.  The DAC Volleyball tournament will kickoff this Saturday with the Lady Yellow Jackets hosting round one at 7pm in the Donald E.
