Former Black Hills State University cross country/track and field athlete Lisa Bomengen (Reynolds) competed in the Portland Marathon held on Sunday, October 5. Lisa had an outstanding race covering the 26.2 mile distance in 3:29.41 (3h:29m:30s). Her time placed her 20th in her division that had 608 finishers. Out of 4022 female finishers Lisa placed 92nd. 

While at Black Hills State, the former Moorcroft graduate earned three All-American honors: two in cross country and one in track. Lisa led the 1998 BHSU women’s cross country team to the South Dakota Iowa Conference runner up finish and the 1999 team championship. The 1999 team became the first Yellow Jacket team to qualify for the NAIA National Meet. As an individual, Lisa place 23rd  in 1998 and 21st in 1999 earning All-American honors both years. Lisa also earned All-American honors in outdoor track by placing 3rd in the 10000 meters in 1999. 

While at Black Hills State University, Lisa earned the Spirit of BH award as well as the 1999 South Dakota Sports Writers Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year. Lisa broke BH school records in the indoor 3000 meters as well as the outdoor 3000, 5000 and 10000.
Lisa was a two time high school cross country state champion leading her team to two state team titles as well as placing runner-up in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs her senior year in the Wyoming State Meet.

Lisa is married to Dr. Travis Bomengen and lives in Thermopolis, WY with their two children Mckenna and Cody.
