Last weekend the Lady Yellow Jackets went on their longest trip of the year to Mayville, North Dakota and Madison, South Dakota. The Yellow Jackets defeated Mayville last Friday night 3-2 and Dakota State on Saturday 3-0.
At Mayville State the Lady Jackets were led offensively by junior middle hitter Kristin Engle with 25 kills. Maggie O’Neill followed Engle with 14 kills. Junior setter Mandy Brumfield distributed to the hitters with 53 assists on the evening. Junior Kayla Haines showed a strong presence at the net leading the way in blocks with 10. With the win the Yellow Jackets improved to 13-5 (5-0 DAC). “We struggled in our serve & receive game which opened the door in sets three and four, but it was nice to see us respond to come back to win the match in set five” said Head Coach Jhett Albers.
Saturday the Lady Yellow Jackets were in Madison, South Dakota as they took on Dakota State University. “Our execution was much more consistent tonight versus Dakota State and we were able to distance ourselves early in each set and sweep the match in three games” added Coach Albers. The Lady Yellow Jackets were led offensively once again by Kristin Engle with 10 kills. Again Haines had a great evening at the net and recorded seven blocks helping the Lady Jackets improve to 14-5 (6-0 DAC).
This week the Lady Jackets will travel to South Dakota Mines on Wednesday night to continue conference play. Their next game after Wednesday will be October 17th & 18th against Minot State University and Dickinson State University in the Donald Young Center on the BHSU campus.
