The Yellow Jackets left last Friday for their longest trip of the season Mayville, North Dakota. “We knew going into this game how big it is to get that first conference win. Last year we lost to Minot State in the first conference game and it was hard to bounce back from” said Head Coach John Scott.
The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start taking a 13-0 first quarter lead. They would continue their attack increasing their lead to 34-0. Mayville State would eventually score on a safety making the halftime score 34-2. “It was nice to get off to a fast start like we did Saturday being on the road” added Coach Scott.
In the second half the Jackets kept the pressure on the Comets increasing their lead and winning the game 48-2. The Yellow Jackets were led on the ground by sophomore running back Tanner Ehrlich who had 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jamie January added to the passing game by catching seven passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively the Jackets held the Comets to only 176 total yards on the afternoon.
The 3-1 Yellow Jackets are home this weekend as they face Dakota State University in the 5th Annual Missouri River Shootout. This Saturday will also be Parents Weekend. Game time is at 1 PM MST in Lyle Hare Stadium.
