Coming into Saturday’s game the Yellow Jackets were looking to get back on track from the previous weekend. There was a lot of excitement buzzing around Lyle Hare Stadium with the pregame festivities and Swarm Days leading off to kickoff at 1:00PM. “It was an extremely hot afternoon and both teams were ready to play from the opening kickoff” said Head Coach John Scott.

South Dakota Mines and BHSU demonstrated early their offensive firepower by moving the ball.  Sophomore running back Tanner Ehrlich was the first to put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard in the first quarter taking a screen pass 50 yards to the end zone. The Yellow Jackets followed Ehrlich’s touchdown with two key interceptions in the second quarter that both led to scores. BHSU went into halftime leading 19-0.

“The first possession in the third quarter was very big for us as we came out and added to our lead, which gave us a boost of confidence and a cushion for the rest of the game” added Coach Scott. The Hardrockers answered back with their first score of the game to make the score 26-7. The Yellow Jackets would eventually score again in the third quarter to increase their lead once again to 33-7.

“In the fourth quarter it was a tough test for our defense. In the past two weeks we have seen a variety of different quarterbacks and we met our goal of doing a good job keeping them out of the end zone after being on the field for long periods of time.” said Coach Scott.

The Yellow Jackets will now get ready for their first conference game this coming Saturday at Mayville State University. To see the game visit the Mayville Athletic Website to access live pay per view.
