“We continued to improve at the University of Sioux Falls Tournament two weeks ago and it was a great opportunity for our younger players to gain experience. We finished the tournament sweeping the last two matches in three games” said Head Coach Jhett Albers. Throughout this tournament the Lady Yellow Jackets started to gain confidence match by match. The Jackets were led by senior Annie Grim who played very consistent throughout the tournament at the Libero position and junior Kristin Engle who was awarded DAC Player of the Week for her efforts in Sioux Falls.
The Lady Yellow Jackets left this past Tuesday for their match Wednesday against the University of South Dakota. “USD is making the transition to the Division I level and they are a legitimate program because they have height at the net, they are very solid at each position, and make very few mistakes” added Coach Albers. The Yellow Jackets were defeated by USD in three straight sets bringing their record to 5-4 going into the Mustang classic this past weekend.
At the Mustang Classic the Yellow Jackets went undefeated in pool play which earned them an opportunity to play in the championship match against Indiana Tech. “We played very well over the course of the tournament despite some minor injuries and having to play young players in key positions” said Coach Albers.
With the 7-2 record over the last nine games the Lady Yellow Jackets are now 8-5 and will begin conference play this weekend at defending DAC Champion Dickinson State University and Minot State University. Please check the schedule for game times.
