The Yellow Jackets will depart this Friday for Marshall, Minnesota where they will take on Southwest Minnesota State University, a Division II opponent that competes in the Northern Sun Conference, on Saturday. “At first glance on paper this appears to be a projected mismatch. It is real noticeable that the NCAA II teams are across the board have bigger athletes. We have to take advantage of being a little smaller. We will have to swarm all over the field on Saturday” said Head Coach John Scott.

The Yellow Jackets have many goals going into their first weekend of the season. “We are looking to play a lot of kids so we don’t get warn down in our first game plus develop depth for the conference season are just a few” added Coach Scott.

Offensively the Yellow Jackets will have to get through the first quarter.  “We have some new starters and the first quarter will be time for them to settle in, get experience, and gain confidence without putting us in a hole early” according to Coach Scott. The Yellow Jackets are very unfamiliar with Southwest Minnesota State University so the offense will have to make many adjustments as the game progresses.

Defensively again the Yellow Jackets have to avoid giving up a big first quarter and gain confidence as the game goes on. “We have some defensive starters that this Saturday will be their first game starting and it will be a transition time for them” said Coach Scott. Southwest Minnesota State University will return their quarterback who has started the past two seasons and has control over their offense.

Special teams is the Yellow jackets biggest area of concern going into this Saturday as they are the least experienced unit on the field. “This first game will be great to give our young special teams unit gain experience and they will have to just get better week by week” added Coach Scott.

Kickoff is at 4:00PM CST in Marshall, Minnesota.  The game can be accessed for free through the link below courtesy of the Northern Sun Conference.  The Yellow Jackets will then return home the next weekend to Lyle Hare Stadium as they will take on Northwest Oklahoma at 1:00PM.
