Black Hills State University Women’s Golf is entering its 4th year of competition in the Dakota Athletic Conference. The Jackets are being led this year by former BHSU golfer Jaime Bentley, and assistant Coach Ray Ginsbach. The team is looking to improve on a successful 2007-2008 campaign in which the Jackets finished 3rd in the final conference standings.
The Jackets will be looking for leadership from its top two finishers of last season. Senior Anne Langdell returns as the team’s top golfer of last season and finished the year as the 2nd best golfer in the conference. While junior Katie Campbell looks to improve on a 7th place conference finish from the 2007-2008 season. Both Langdell and Campbell advanced on to post-season play and bring experience and leadership that the team will look to build upon in the upcoming season.
Sophomores Tamara Haines and Katelynn Lamb are coming off solid freshmen campaigns and will be looked upon to make big contributions to this year’s team. Key additions to the 2008 squad include Rapid City native AJ Rolfson and Bison native Emily Chapman. Rolfson had a standout high school career playing for Rapid City Stevens before attending South Dakota School of Mines. Now attending BHSU, Rolfson looks to play a big role on this year’s women’s golf team. Emily Chapman is joining the Jackets as a freshman after a great high school career at Bison High School, which was capped off by a top 15 finish at the state tournament. “We are very excited to have both AJ and Emily on this year’s squad. AJ brings a lot of tournament experience and golf knowledge to the table, and Emily has a great attitude and work ethic that we love to see in our athletes.” Coach Bentley.
The Jackets are striving to make it back to post-season play in the 2008-2009 season. “We are very excited about the upcoming season and feel we have a great opportunity to be one of the best team’s in the conference.” commented Bentley. The Lady Jackets play a split season with tournaments in both the fall and the spring. The ladies open up play in Dickinson, ND on September 7th & 8th. The only home tournament on this season’s schedule is the Black Hills State Invitational on April 26th & 27th, 2009 at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
