All students who are seeking a degree from one of South Dakota's regental institutions must complete  a CAAP Proficiency Exam.

The proficiency tests, produced by ACT and called the CAAP (Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency), consist of four separate multiple-choice exams in Science Reasoning, Mathematics, Reading, and Writing.

Although these exams are required, they offer you a unique opportunity to discover how much knowledge you have gained in the selected fundamental skill areas. The fundamental skills being measured are important for functioning in today's society and for completing upper level college work. Considering this, be sure to treat these exams very seriously, and try to do your best on each of the tests.

Students who meet the following criteria will sit for the exams:

§ Students seeking their baccalaureate degree who have completed 48 or more credit hours at/or above the 100 credit level.

§ Students seeking associate degrees  who  have completed 32 credit hours at/or above the 100 credit level.

§ Students will sit for the examination during the first semester in which they become eligible in terms of passed credits.

The proficiency exams will be given at BHSU Spearfish campus on Tuesday, March 13th, Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th  in two sessions each day 7:50 am and 12:50 pm.

For BHSU students taking classes at the University Center, Rapid City, the proficiency exams will be given at the University Center on Saturday, March 17th at 7:50 am and 12:50 pm.

The math department has put together tutorial material on D2L.

An account has been established for you on D2L and the information may be found in the course titled CAAP Math Review. This material will be the most useful if you dedicate a couple  of hours per week from now until your testing date. You can access D2L by directing your browser to:  https://d2l.sdbor.edu/index.asp.  If you have technical problems with D2L, please email Terry.Hupp@BHSU.edu. For issues regarding the math content or specific review questions please email Daniel.Swenson@BHSU.edu,  and we will try to resolve  any problems. If you have problems with the curriculum within the course, please contact Dr. Daniel Swenson.
