  • Adams Museum and House
    • Administrative: Assist with fundraising, grant writing, and membership
    • Docent: Tour and relate history to visitors through a restored 1892 Victorian house
    • Education: Assist with school tours (fall & winter)
    • Gallery Guides: Answer questions for a specific gallery in the museum
    • Gardens: Weed, mulch, and water flowerbeds
    • Interpretation Assistant: Assist with museum artifact care and display
    • Office: Assist with data entry, distribution of flyers, quarterly newsletters, mailings
    • Sales Associate at Adams House Gift Shop or Museum Bookstore:  Answer questions, assist with purchases, operate register, price and stock merchandise, clean displays
    • Special Events: Assist at events; may include greeting, serving, set-up, tear-down, and seating
    • Teas and Tours: Baking, serving, set-up, tear-down, seating; also seeking a director of this program
    • Visitor Services: Greet and interact with visitors, answer history/tourism questions
    • Other opportunities include: Curatorial work, brochure design/creation, exhibit design, recruitment

      Not all volunteer opportunities are available at all times of the year. 
  •  Artemis House
    • General: Yard work, repairs, painting, cleaning
    • Sort and organize donations
    • Assist with fundraisers
    • Public outreach: Represent Artemis House at Information Fairs, etc.
    • Grocery Shopping
    • Babysitting
    • Office: Assistance with brochures, data entry, web, etc.
    • Crisis line advocates

      A background check is required for all positions.
  • Community Action Team
    • General Labor: Stack and sack food when it arrives (once monthly, last week of the month)
    • Customer Services: Help distribute and carry food and goods (Tues and Wed. 10 am – 1 pm)
    • Education: Assist with and help develop Reading is FUNdamental program
    • Participate in the Community Action Team group
  • D.C. Booth Society and Fish Hatchery
    • Assist museum’s curator in collection management facility
    • Meet and greet visitors and give tours
    • Assist with special events or clean-up days
    • Various maintenance projects
    • Long term volunteers needed to staff the front desk and gift shop
  • Family Health Education Services
    • Assist with marketing, fundraising, and/or advertising (design and distribution)
    • Public speaking opportunities – educating others
  • Grace Balloch Library
    • General: Great need for people to wash library toys!
    • Proofreaders for a special project
    • Shelf books (using Dewey decimal system)
    • Education: Assist with Summer Reading Program and Story Time
  • High Plains Heritage Center
    • Customer Service/ Retail: Work in bookstore/ at front desk
    • Meet and greet visitors/ guide tours/ answer visitor questions and phone
    • Inventory: Assist in archiving museum inventory in a computer (includes digital photography; must show an interest in history)
    • Special Projects: Assist with “Founding Families” project
    • Assist with displays
    • Gardens:  Help plant and maintain flowerbeds
    • General: Maintenance and repair to buildings
    • Animals: Attend to animals

    • Respite care

  • Northern Hills Pregnancy Care Center
    • General: Painting, weeding, laundry
    • Office: Assist with newsletter creation, mailings, fundraising, answer phone
    • Direct: Become a Peer Counselor
    • Administer pregnancy tests
  • Northern Hills Training Center
    • 1:1 Volunteer Support
    • Special Events: Assist with fundraising events such as annual chili supper
  • Queen City Literacy Council
    • Tutors needed for reading and English as a second language (ESL)
    • Volunteer to be a member of the Literacy Council
  • Salvation Army
    • Direct: Assist people in selecting clothing items
    • General: Sort clothing/ donations
    • Thanksgiving-Christmas: Need bell ringers
    • Christmas: Pack and distribute Christmas baskets and toys
    • Drive people to get medical services
  • SHARE (Self Help And Resource Exchange)
    • Drive to Rapid City and pick up food items
    • Distribute food items
    • Assist carrying boxes of food to cars
  • Spearfish Ambulance Service
    • EMT positions
