Volunteer Fair
The Volunteer Fair was held throughout the Student Union lobby and hallways. Anyone interested in volunteering was encouraged to attend the fair hosted by BHSU Community-University-Resource-Exchange. The fair featured approximately 14 organizations. Students, faculty and staff members learned how they can make a difference as a volunteer in the Black Hills community.
Volunteer Fairs are a great way to talk with different organizations, explore opportunities, and open yourself to new experiences.

Red Shirt Table
Tiospaye is a non-profit organization, originally inspired by two Black Hills State University students. Associated with this is the annual Red Shirt Toy Drive which just finished its sixth Christmas. Red Shirt is a small Lakota village east of Hermosa, South Dakota, and part of the Pine Ridge Reservation.
This year, several BHSU faculty, some volunteers and AmeriCorps*VISTA spearheaded the collection of new toys, money to buy toys, non-perishable food items, and new clothing. Items were collected in the lobby of the Student Union, the Center for American Indian Studies and Meier Hall.
We served lunch at the Red Shirt Table school, including all teachers and construction workers (building the new Red Shirt Table school), we served nearly 75 individuals. All 48 children from K-8 received gifts.
