Austin presents technology paper at international conference - Top Dr. Len Austin, assistant professor of education at Black Hills State University, presented a workshop at the 11th International Conference for the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE 2000) recently in San Diego, Calif. Simpson to perform at Borders - Top Scott Simpson, assistant professor of education at Black Hills State University, will give a CD release performance at Borders in Rapid City Saturday, Feb. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. His recording, Ozzie's Guitar, is original acoustic folk music.
Regents adopt special resolution to honor employees - Top The South Dakota Board of Regents adopted this special resolution at their January meeting extending their thanks and appreciation to the employees on campus who made the new millennium a non-event. Resolution
Career services announces opportunities - Top
A representative from Tom Daschle's office will be on campus Feb. 23 to provide information and interview applicants for Internships. An information table will be in the Student Union Lobby from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon interviews may be scheduled with career services office.	The South Dakota B-I-G Job Fair will be in Sioux Falls on Feb. 22. More than 100 businesses will be participating. Employers will be prepared to meet with candidates about internships and career opportunities. Check the website sdcppa.org for a list of companies. BHSU accounting students provide tax assistance - Top Accounting students at Black Hills State University will be available to help area residents with income tax preparation assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Story
Dakota Chamber Orchestra established - Top The Dakota Chamber Orchestra has been established in residence at Black Hills State University. A premier performance for this group is scheduled for April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish. The Dakota Chamber Orchestra was formed to provide an opportunity for personal development of musicians through performance of works of the master composers of orchestra music while providing the campus of BHSU and the people of the Black Hills region with additional cultural opportunities. Rehearsals for the chamber orchestra are set for Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. in Cook Hall room 204 on the BHSU campus. The schedule of regular rehearsals is Feb. 15, Feb. 22, Feb. 29, March 14, March 21, March 28, April 4, April 11, April 18 and April 25. There will be a dress rehearsal Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at Matthews Opera House.
Theatre will present a musical fairytale - Top The Black Hills State University theater department will present “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine in Woodburn Auditorium Feb. 24-26 at 8 p.m., and a Feb. 27 matinee at 2:30 p.m. Story
Risk management and marketing seminar scheduled - Top The Center for Business and Entrepreneurship at Black Hills State University will host two workshops "Organization Risk Management" and "The Role of Marketing in Your Organization" Friday, Feb. 18 at the Bell Steak House in Spearfish. Story
Wellness fair scheduled at BHSU - Top
Along with spring cleaning it's time to get a clean bill of health for summertime activities. A good place to start, if you haven't had a recent physical by your family physician, is at the second annual Northern Hills Wellness Fair on the Black Hills State University campus Wednesday, April 5. The wellness fair will be held from noon to 7 p.m. at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center and is open to the public. The fair, composed mainly of health-care providers, will provide free or at-cost wellness screenings which include, but are not limited to: glucose, blood pressure, body fat, cholesterol, flexibility and balance, vision, and hematocrit tests. It's	important to know the numbers from these kinds of tests for good health and wellness. Local health-care providers will be available to discuss and answer questions, discuss job opportunities in health care, and answer questions on a variety of health-related topics. Other booths will offer educational information and demonstrations. Many will offer freebies and door prizes. Entertainment will also be provided. Crackerbarrel scheduled for Saturday - Top
The Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce government affairs committee will host a Legislative Crackerbarrel Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Spearfish Chamber of Commerce, 106 W. Kansas, at 10 a.m. District 31 legislators Sen. James Dunn, Rep. Mark Young, and Rep. Jerry Apa have been invited to participate in the crackerbarrel. Crackerbarrels are held to provide the public an opportunity to visit with local legislators and become more	informed on political issues facing the state. Following the opening remarks by featured legislators, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments on legislative issues. The crackerbarrel is open to the public.
